Kate Motluk’s art­icle in Polit­ic­al Geo­graphy ex­am­ines how the United King­dom ex­ter­n­al­ises mi­gra­tion con­trol through places out­side Great Bri­tain. Using four sites — Rwanda, Diego Garcia (Brit­ish Indian Ocean Ter­rit­ory), the Bibby Stock­holm barge and Calais — it traces how the border is dis­placed and how these prac­tices are tied to en­dur­ing co­lo­ni­al logics, with Great Bri­tain be­com­ing in­creas­ingly in­ac­cess­ible to vul­ner­able mi­grants.
