Border regime in Morocco examined in comparative terms with Frontex
Development summary
Hanen Medromi treats Moroccan border law not simply as a question of territorial boundaries, but as a composite legal regime operating across land, air and maritime borders. The article systematises the principal legal sources, competent authorities and procedures for refusal of entry, removal, maritime interception, customs control and data-based surveillance, while also considering regularisation policies, institutional gaps in asylum, and procedural safeguards against removal and detention. In its functional comparison with the European integrated border management model associated with Frontex, it argues that Morocco’s normative and operational apparatus is nevertheless undermined by fragmented competences, limited procedural traceability and uneven oversight, making judicial review and legal certainty more difficult.
