The Hague Convention of 4 May 1971 determines the law applicable to civil non-contractual liability arising from traffic accidents. The general rule is the internal law of the State where the accident occurred, subject to exceptions based on the State of registration and habitual residence in single-vehicle accidents, certain multi-vehicle accidents and some categories of loss.
