Development summary
On 5 June 2024, the HCCH announced that the 1961 Apostille Convention, which abolishes the requirement of legalisation for foreign public documents, had entered into force for Rwanda. This followed Rwanda’s deposit of its instrument of accession on 6 October 2023.
Although Rwanda is not yet a Member of the HCCH, it is a Contracting Party to two HCCH Conventions: the 1961 Apostille Convention and the 1993 Adoption Convention. The 1961 Apostille Convention has 126 Contracting Parties.
