The Discretionary Power of the Administration in Acquiring Turkish Citizenship Through Marriage

This article addresses the limits of administrative discretion in the acquisition of Turkish citizenship through marriage. It examines citizenship granted by decision of the competent authority under Article 10 of the Turkish Citizenship Law and, in particular, how the administration may decide on applications based on marriage in light of doctrinal views and Council of State decisions; it also stresses that the scope of that discretion must be defined to prevent arbitrary practice.
