Ana Mulej’s dissertation considers how the economic unit doctrine operates in EU competition-law infringement cases and how Article 8(1) of the Brussels I Recast is affected by that doctrine, using the case-law of the Court of Justice of the European Union. It addresses parent-company liability based on decisive influence, the liability of subsidiaries, the possible extension of liability to sister companies, and whether a defendant who is not the direct addressee of a competition decision but belongs to the same economic unit may serve as an anchor defendant for jurisdiction; the work concludes that the transfer of competition-law concepts into private international law may ease access to justice for claimants while raising concerns about misuse of jurisdictional rules and legal predictability for defendants.
